Where Are Color Themes Save Microsoft For Mac

Greetings--
I'm trying to add a color theme created by someone else to my computer's list of colors for use in PowerPoint 2010. Let me say a few words about what I understand about using themes and colors first.
1. Another user sent me a ppt file and template that has the theme and colors I want. I know how to browse for themes and apply the theme so it shows up in the design thumbnails on my computer. Even so, the customized color name does not show up in my list of custom colors. (When I click on Colors in the Design tab.)
2. I have created my own custom color/theme, so I see how it works and where a customized set of colors appears (above Built-in). When I save a theme I create, it does, of course, show up on my list. I believe it appears twice in my filing system, once as an xml file and another time as a thmx file.
Though I can save a theme someone sends it to me, how do I get their customized palette to show on my list of colors? Do they have to send me their thmx and xml files and I put them in the right place? Or, does it really not matter whether the colors show on the list? I think they should show on the list so that I can use them in other presentations without having to apply the whole theme. I just want the palette. I suppose I can recreate it, but it seems that I should be able to import it somehow.
Please advise?
Thanks!

Customize the theme any way you like by changing the colors, fonts, paragraph spacing, watermark, background colors, or page borders on the Design tab. On the Design tab, click Themes, and then click Save Current Theme. In the Save Current Theme dialog box, type a name for your new theme and click Save. Each Theme uses a specific set of 8 colors along with 5 shades (for a total of 48) of each which categorically are assigned to fonts, borders, fills, etc. When you select one of them you aren't just picking the color, you're actually picking a number 1-48. If you pick the 3rd color in the Theme, for example, switching to a different Theme.

Haven’t you seen the Themes that PowerPoint shows you when you want to create a new presentation? These Themes show up in the Presentation Gallery and also within the Themes drop down galleries within PowerPoint. Where are those Themes located? Many times, you want to know why this information is not as easily accessible as it should have been. Luckily, we will try and solve this problem.

We will look at where the built-in Themes are located. If you want to find the location where your custom Themes and templates are saved, explore our Where Are Custom Office Themes and Templates Saved page.

Where Are Built-in Office Themes Located?

Depending upon where you installed Microsoft Office, the built-in Themes may be located in almost maze-like hidden subfolders! By default, this translates to these folder locations:

Office 365 on Windows 10

Office 2019 on Windows 10

Office 2016 on Windows 10, 8, and 7

Multiple locations may contain Themes installed with Microsoft Office on Windows:

  • C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeRootDocument Themes 16
  • C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeDocument Themes 16
  • C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft OfficeRootDocument Themes 16

<UserName> translates to your user name, as in the user name you use to log in to Windows, whereas LocaleID is the language code for your version of Microsoft Windows. You can find a list of Locale IDs here.

Office 2019 and 2016 on macOS (Also, older versions of Office 365)

Funnily enough, you cannot find any Themes anywhere within an Office 2019 or 2016 installation. Follow these steps to access the Themes:

  1. Access the Macintosh HD:Applications folder. Locate the Microsoft PowerPoint icon, as shown in Figure 1, below.

  2. Figure 1: Microsoft PowerPoint icon
  3. Now Ctrl + click (or right-click) this icon, and choose the Show Package Contents option in the resultant menu, as shown in Figure 2, below.

  4. Figure 2: Show Package Contents
  5. You will now see the innards of the PowerPoint application! Browse to the Contents:Resources:Office Themes folder, where you will find all the Themes you have been looking for (see Figure 3 below).

Note: These paths assume that you installed to your C drive (on Windows) or the Macintosh HD drive (on Mac OS X). If you installed to another drive, you will substitute the drive in your path. Also, you may have changed the name of your Microsoft Office folder to Microsoft Office 2016 or a similar name for other versions of Microsoft Office. In that case, your paths may differ on account of different folder names.
